Who Is Praying For You?
John 17
- prayer is the most important thing we can do!…but who is praying for you?
- Someone prayed for you, someone continues to pray for you
- What did Jesus pray for you?
- Jn 16:33; giving us His peace
- 3 requests Jesus is making to God the Father on your behalf:
- To experience God
- Do you belong to Jesus?
- Are you experiencing Him>
- Jn 17:3; eternal life = knowing God the Father and Jesus
- “knowing” in the sense/level of marriage; intimacy to the level of knowing the thoughts and desires of the other side without having them explicitly state them
- Jn 17:23-26; promises for us
- must believe God send Jesus to you; Jesus states we are gifts to Him 7 times in this passage
- For protection from…
- the world (Jn 17:14)
- “world” is stated 18 times; why the repetition? because “the world will hate you” (Jn 15:18)
- Perry Noble: “When you allow the voice of those who know you the least to define you the most, you are in trouble…”
- we are taken from the world so we can go to the world with the Message
- obeying God = reveals character of God
- God’s mission with His Message produces Godly maturity
- the evil one (Jn 17:15)
- James 4:7; Jesus’ name = power, will drive evil away
- To glorify God through…
- unity (17:11,21,23)
- unity = powerful weapon against the enemy; also reveals character of God
- not same-ness but ONE-NESS
- 1 Pet 5:8
- holiness (Jn 17:17)
- unity and holiness are packed together
- how do we know if Jesus’ prayers are being heard by God the Father and enacted upon?
- Jn 11:42
- didn’t just PRAY for you, actually put feat through taking the cross
- Jn 3:8, Col 2:15
- unity, answers and accomplishment is all at the cross
- BUT now Jesus is praying at right hand of God
- Rom 8:33-34
- Heb 7:25
