Moving On From Stone: Part 1

In commemoration of our company winning a pair of very prestigious and coveted awards for one of our products, we were given a nifty little Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Now, at home I am mainly using the laptop, which has considerably more screen space and a keyboard, so I began to wonder why I’d even consider keeping this new gadget. Of course, being the person that I am,I felt the fairest thing to do would be to give a proper one week evaluation to see whether this latest greatest can grow on my affections.

Keep reading to follow some of the new things i’m discovering about the tablet and how it can fit into my life!

Coming from an Android phone, I wasn’t really convinced that there would be anything different or new to add to my experience. however playing through some of the menus or sliding my finger through the menus there are a few changes which I can understand now why people would want to port honeycomb on to their phones before ice cream sandwich was released, but of course now that ICS is available, people can get the best of both worlds.

I must admit, one of the features that I didn’t know about was the constant overlay of the navigation on the home screens. It’s a minor feature which can easily be overlooked, but it adds a new level of convenience in adding apps/widgets or switching screens.

Of course, the main thing I wanted to talk about in this post is the default browser. Up to and including the gingerbread release, the built in browser on Android phones was a little bit lacking, and one would have to resort to third party browsers such as the wonderful Dolphin Browser HD for tabbed browsing. Available right out of the box this time however, is tabbed browsing *and* incognito mode, giving me an experience much closer to the desktop version of Chrome. Unfortunately, plugins and add-ons (aside from Flash-support) are surely missed. perhaps I’ll have to install a different app from the marketplace in order to block some really pesky ads.

Hey, at least it renders the blog correctly 🙂
