Acts 12 – Get Out: Our God Is Stronger

The final sermon from the Acts series at Harvest Durham.

It didn’t feel like this week has as much impact as last, but still a few good points! However, I did feel that this week contained a lot more loose commentary from Pastor Ian, with regards to how the guards may have felt and the actions taken against them. Granted, it might be accurate given the situation, but still a little “extra”.

Acts 12:17-25

Because our God is stronger…

  1. No plan can succeed against us (v17-19)
    • Ps 33:10
    • Job 5:12-13
    • don’t focus on the “why” of the suffering, but rather on the “who” we’re suffering for
      • We need theĀ obedience to submit to God in order to win for the Kingdom
  2. No person can stand against us (v20-23)
    • Herod given many chances to repent and return glory to GodĀ BUT he decided to steal it from God
    • Prov 3; God opposes the proud
    • Rom 1; everything begins to unravel with the heart of all sin, idolatry
  3. No power can stop us (v24,25)
    • from beginning to end of the Bible, we see the flourishing of the Gospel and that God’s power is triumphant
      • Therefore: Will you go? Will you take hold of that power to be bold for His Kingdom? Will you rely on Him to be your everything? Will you submit and be obedient to His calling?
    • Esther 4:14; “…for such a time as this…”
      • God will use you or someone else
    • You’ve already seen the power of the cross and you already know how the whole story will end (Revelations)! Why fear?
