Event
National journalist visits campus for energy discussion

October 2, 2007

Journalist Bob McDonald, who has been communicating science internationally through television, radio, print and live presentations for more than 30 years, will be visiting campus to address UOIT students, faculty and staff about energy consumption, through his presentation Energy, Who Cares?

Canadians consume more energy per person than almost every other country. The country is rich in resources but supplies are dwindling and demand is rising. Climate change is forcing a rethinking of energy use – what are the realistic alternatives to a clean energy future?

McDonald is the host of CBC Radio’s Quirks and Quarks, an award-winning science program with a national audience of nearly 500,000. He is also a reporter for CBC’s The National, as well as host and writer of the Gemini Award-nominated children’s series Heads Up. McDonald has authored two science books for children and contributed to numerous science textbooks, newspapers and magazines, including The Globe and Mail, Owl Magazine and many others. His latest book is Measuring the Earth With a Stick.

Event details:

So today I went to an energy presentation by Bob McDonald, who is a journalist for CBC, if you’ve read. Anyway, I didn’t really get anything new from his little talk, apart from things I already knew about our ailing environment and some ways to help lessen its death…but a thing I noticed right away was how much he reminded me of my high school biology teacher, Mr. Martin Hybs. They both had whiting hair (or…the morning shade, as Hybs would put it), both had humour in serious topics and both had similar sounding voices! No, seriously…they really did sound the same. Oh, nostalgia, haha.

But yes…didn’t learn much from the presentation, but it was interesting. The CRWC bleachers need back-support!
