I AM TERRIFIED EP [Review]

At the beginning of July, I had received an email from Gotee Records, informing me about an upcoming release from one of their newly signed bands, I AM TERRIFIED (IAT). There’s something strange about these emails — sometimes I really don’t care to listen to the promoted band/music, mainly because I am not interested. However, this time around I had decided to take a chance with IAT and went to their MySpace page. After that, I had decided I would patiently wait for the 29th, when their CD would finally be released.

IAT is a self-proclaimed hardcore/rock Christian band, and the first thing that caught me from the brief songs I heard were the lyrics — they really demonstrate their faith. These guys are not afraid terrified of proclaiming the Lord through their music! Formerly known as Fixed ‘Til Tuesday, IAT’s name comes from Job 23:14-15, which says

He carries out his decree against me, and many such plans he still has in store. That is why I am terrified before him; when I think of all this, I fear him.

Their self-titled EP was released July 29th and features 6 songs, one of which (“Heaven Knocking, Hell Rising”) was previously released earlier in their “career”, to my knowledge; it is available on iTunes for $5.94. But enough of this brief intro, let’s get into the beef of this post: THE TRACK BY TRACK ANALYSIS.

[COVER] Everything

I didn’t catch onto Michael Buble when he grew in popularity, so of course I had missed out on how good he could be. I think some people were comparing him to Frank Sinatra and other artists “of that genre”?

Regardless, hearing the song last summer at LOAH and having to play (turns out I didn’t need to play) it for the Victoria Day Celebration/Earthquake Relief fundraiser, I had grown a large interest in the song. The subtle guitar parts were interesting, and I remembered Buble saying in an interview somewhere (ET Canada?) that he wrote these songs FOR MEN (to sing to their girlfriend or wife). Not…that…there…is…any…relation…right…now.

And so I decided to have some fun. I have to admit that it took me whole day to finally get to a recording where I wasn’t 100% displeased, but even right now I am only probably around 85% pleased with how this turned out. Yes, I am critical of myself even though I don’t have the equipment to make higher quality recordings…haha.

Moja

Moja is a bass and drum, rock-ish and definitely dance-able Japanese band. They’re one of the acts at North By NorthEast I would check out, if I were to go. Of course, I’d have to check out each and every other performance during the fest so I could really determine if I wanted to go or not…and that seems like a lot of work.

Anyway, you can go visit Moja at their Mac site, or via their Myspace. They only have 3 songs up, and it doesn’t look like they have any CDs recorded yet.

And a major thought…if we (I) dive into the indie scene again, I’d have:

  1. A lot of bands to discover/re-discover
  2. A hard time supporting them all, the one’s that I’d like
  3. Maybe no life, trying to discover every frickin’ indie band on this frickin’ planet

So…I’m probably not going to dive into the so-called “indie scene” again 😛
