Why We Should Love Jesus
1 John 3:16, 1 John 4:19
- love in biochemical terms vs love as defined
- there are plenty who are ready to divorce Jesus (or already have)…
- …because they are convinced Jesus/God doesn’t love them based on fulfillment of their prayers
- why should we love Jesus?
- 1 John 4:19
- but when, where and how did God love?
- 1 John 4:9
- the standard/greatest example of love
- 1 John 3:16
- greatest example of hate: Cain killing Abel
- we shouldn’t base our love on what He does/doesn’t do in our lives
- should be base don what He has already done for us on the cross
- we lose sight of why we love God and focus on what He does/doesn’t do in our life
- we ask “What have You done for me lately?”
- but how can you ask this Q to the one who has nail marks in hands and died (and rose) for you?
- “rely”: believable and trustworthy
- answering our prayers because He loves us
- not answering our prayers because He loves us
- for our love to remain constant, we must focus on the CROSS so we will never forget His love
- commanded to remember His DEATH, not His birth
- “do this in remembrance of me”
