Psalm 96
- “Sing to the Lord” x3: clear action, object our singing is directed to, and reason why
- v2: “Day to day”
- we are living in the truth; this stays fresh every day for us
- salvation is fully from God; despite our best, out own efforts always result in defeat
- the greatness of salvation is what leads us to singing; therefore, bless everyone with singing
- new song: connected with day to day proclamation that our God never gets old (not necessarily talking about brand new music/lyrics)
- new mercies daily
- “sing to the Lord” not singular but rather plural to be done by a multitude of people
- v3: His character & conduct
- 1st focus vertically and overflow with God’s love so you can go out and declare to all nations and not focus solely on how you can’t/won’t
- rally around Christ and be amazed by Him! you won’t be able to stop talking about Him
- 1st focus vertically and overflow with God’s love so you can go out and declare to all nations and not focus solely on how you can’t/won’t
- v4-5: elohim = God; elolim = worthless
- all created to worship, but what do we worship? Do we focus on getting to the next level, getting the next thing? Getting our next idol?
- Possible counter of Word of Faith movement?
- v6: splendor & majesty before Him; radiating from God…as we get closer, we want more and more
- 2 Cor; “thanks be to God to leading us in the triumphant procession”
- v7-10: “Ascribe to the Lord”; give credit
- even if you are weak and faithless reach out vertically for help
- v8: “bring an offering”; act of worship and sacrifice as reminder that $ is not the king of our lives BUT the King has been the currency for our lives
- joining together at service is our declaration
- v10: “The Lord reigns”; nothing will thwart His plan therefore we work hard but REST in this truth
- v9: heart adorned attire, not literal physical attire
- v11-13: injustice will be stopped by righteous justice
- weep and grieve for all; stop fighting for who is right or wrong!
