Why We Should Love Jesus

1 John 3:16, 1 John 4:19

• love in biochemical terms vs love as defined
• there are plenty who are ready to divorce Jesus (or already have)…
  • …because they are convinced Jesus/God doesn’t love them based on fulfillment of their prayers
• why should we love Jesus?

• but when, where and how did God love?

• the standard/greatest example of love
  • 1 John 3:16
• greatest example of hate: Cain killing Abel
• we shouldn’t base our love on what He does/doesn’t do in our lives
  • should be base don what He has already done for us on the cross
  • we lose sight of why we love God and focus on what He does/doesn’t do in our life
• we ask “What have You done for me lately?”
  • but how can you ask this Q to the one who has nail marks in hands and died (and rose) for you?
• “rely”: believable and trustworthy
• answering our prayers because He loves us
• not answering our prayers because He loves us
• for our love to remain constant, we must focus on the CROSS so we will never forget His love
  • commanded to remember His DEATH, not His birth
  • “do this in remembrance of me”
